French Essentials for Dummies, 2nd ed.

French Essentials for DummiesThe first edition of French Essentials for Dummies was published in 2011 and has my name on it because more than a third of its content was taken from my book Intermediate French for Dummies, with no input from me.

The new, second edition is very different: I edited and in some chapters even completely rewrote it, and am now proud to call it my ninth book. If you’re looking for a reference book that you can dip into to get an overview of or a reminder about verb conjugations, adverbial pronouns, or whatever other intermediate-ish grammar you need to learn or brush up on, this is the one: it covers the essentials.

French Essentials for Dummies is available in both paperback and ebook versions at Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, or your favorite bookstore.

Lawless Languages

Lawless LanguagesI’m very excited to announce the launch of Lawless Languages, a Substack where I compare and contrast French, Spanish, and Italian.

Any time a person starts learning a new language, especially one that’s related to a language they already speak, similarities and differences are bound to pop up. I speak three Romance languages (French, Spanish, Italian), and I find it endlessly fascinating to compare the things that set them apart, like the fact that two have a near future (e.g., I’m going to eat) but the third one doesn’t.

If this intrigues you too, join me at Lawless Languages on Substack, where I’ll delve into these topics regularly. I hope to see you there!
